    Description

Triassic Cycad Replaced by Copper Minerals, Lost Lake Claim, Nacimiento Mine, Cuba, New Mexico.  I owned this claim until July, 2020 and still have a lot of inventory.  The wood is mostly replaced by chalcocite (CU2S) which is 90% copper by weight.
The arkose sandstone in which the wood in encased is usually stained with malachite and, at times, azurite.   The black mineral is tenorite.  It appears to be coal, but is not -- if you heat it with a butane torch, it does not burn and turns a copper color.
This specimen exhibits all of this:  A piece of wood encased in malachite and azurite-stained arkose with chalcocite and tenorite.   The malachite forms some nodules in the sandstone.  3 3/4 inches long.   A little over 1/2 a pound.  wood10
I will combine shipping when specimen safety can be guaranteed which is much of the time.
