Description
Vintage Hanging VaseThis hanging vase may have had a
manufacturer's sticker at one time but
it doesn't now. It feels Japanese to
me and possibly had an OMC or
Toyo sticker earlier in its life.
The colors and the high quality
of the material, the style, and the
brown cord all lead me to believe
it is Japanese, possibly from the
1970's or so, and probably
intended for an ikebana arrangement.
You can hang it as a wall pocket or
use the cord. It has a very narrow,
wall-hugging profile and would be
great for some type of trailing
arrangement.
It has a pedestal style base which
gives it a contemporary profile. This
means it
will also sit by itself without
any other
support making it ideal for a
narrow shelf, small bathroom counter
or other place where
space
is limited.
It's is in very good condition
.
There is crackling
to the glaze inside the
opening
. There
is a small spot on the
back side
of
the bottom edge where
the paint
didn't quite cover - about
3/16" wide. Lastly, there is a short
line on the side of the shoulder which
is also not completely glazed over.
I believe all of this was present
when the vase left the factory.
The vase is understated with it's muted
colors and soft, satin sheen - just
what you would expect from Japan.
Approximate measurements:
7-3/4" wide
7-7/8" tall
1-3/4" deep
